Botanical Name: Aquliaria Agallochia, a family of Thymelaeaceae.

Aromatic Description: Agarwood essential oil, derived from species within the Aquilaria genus, such as Aquilaria malaccensis, A. crassna, and A. sinensis, is one of the world's rarest and most precious oils. Its rich and multi-layered aroma combines deep woody and balsamic notes with earthy sweetness and smokiness. Depending on the tree’s origin and the distillation process, it may also carry subtle hints of spice, leather, or dark fruit.

Agarwood symbolises inner transformation, divine presence, protection, and purification. It is known as “liquid gold” and has been revered in spiritual traditions for centuries. It is frequently used as a sacred oil to deepen spiritual practice and support emotional evolution. Agarwood is most closely linked to the Root Chakra, which supports grounding and emotional security. It also influences the Sacral Chakra, promoting emotional release and creativity, and the Third Eye Chakra, enhancing deeper states of meditation.

Therapeutically, Agarwood essential oil is highly valued for its grounding and calming properties. It soothes the nervous system, alleviates anxiety, eases emotional turmoil, and promotes restful sleep. Its complex chemistry includes sesquiterpenes like agarospirol, guaiol, and chromones that contribute to its signature fragrance and pharmacological effects. These compounds lend the oil antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and emotionally stabilising qualities. In traditional Eastern medicine, Agarwood has also been used to treat respiratory conditions such as asthma and persistent coughs. When used topically in skincare formulations—always heavily diluted—it offers gentle antimicrobial support for the skin.

Due to its strong spiritual and emotional impact, Agarwood oil is commonly used in meditation, high-end perfumery, sacred rituals, and trauma recovery work. It blends harmoniously with other grounding and meditative oils like Sandalwood, Frankincense, Myrrh, Patchouli, and Vetiver, as well as lighter oils like Rose and Bergamot to elevate its depth. The oil is typically extracted through steam distillation of the resinous heartwood, which only forms after the tree is infected with a specific mould. This natural process, often taking many years, makes genuine Agarwood oil extremely rare, ethically sensitive, and incredibly potent in aroma and symbolism.

Extraction Method: Steam Distillation from the plant wood.
